I am happy to report that Spencer didn't whine as much as usual on Friday about going to school! Hooray! In response to your excellent suggestions, I have tried the bribing thing and it works for a while but a few days after the bribe is over, he reverts back to old habits and begins complaining again.
However something else worked this time. . .When I picked up Spencer from school on Thursday and he was happy and "loved school," I said, "Will you remember how fun school was today and not fight with me tomorrow?" He promised he would and when I reminded him of that Friday, he didn't fuss like normal. It was a much better day!
