One of my best friends in life, Cara, came with her husband, Dale, and their cute kids, Maddie and Taylor, to visit us over Thanksgiving weekend. They just moved from Oklahoma to Virginia Beach so I finally have a good friend from my youth on the East Coast. Even though it's over six hours and three states away, it's the closest we've ever lived to one another in the last 20 years so we're excited! We plan to spend a lot of time together over vacations and holidays. Our kids are just the right age to be friends with each other.
Cara is my favorite photographer and hairdresser so she did all my kids' hair and then took our pictures. Our goal was to have an outdoor family picture while we were waiting for the rolls to rise and the turkey to cook. Unfortunately, right when we needed to take the pictures, it started snowing like crazy outside which didn't make the dreamed-of family picture possible. So we did our best indoors. We did get a great Christmas card shot in the snow and a good family shot inside which I will add later after all the Christmas cards have been sent and received. I am so happy with the shots Cara took of my kids. They are beautiful! She took some beautiful pictures of the girls outside. Unfortunately, Spencer was too busy snowball fighting to pose outside. It was our first snowstorm of the season and just lasted a short time before it turned to rain but the kids had a chance to get out and play in it so that made their day! Dale was so excited because he hadn't seen snow in a long time as he just returned from a year in Saudi Arabia with the Air Force.
The dinner turned out great despite our being distracted by the pictures and forgetting to baste the turkey and putting the rolls in the oven a little later than planned. We stuffed ourselves full of rolls, turkey, Dale's special stuffin' muffins, green bean casserole, watergate salad, green salad, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, etc. To top it off, we had homemade apple and pumpkin pies. Mmmmm! Is it any wonder that I gained a little weight? Totally worth it! The guys watched football afterward and the girls cleaned up. Unfortunately, my dishwasher broke and we had to hand-wash all the dishes but it was a wonderful day!
